Martina Navratilova



Navratilova, Martina (1956–.), Czechoslovakian-born U.S. tennis player. Known for her aggressive and powerful play, in singles competition she won a record 9 Wimbledons (1978, 79, 82–87, 90), 4 U.S. Opens (1983, 84, 86, 87), 3 Australian Opens (1981, 83, 85) and 2 French Opens (1982, 84). Navratilova defected in 1975 and became a U.S. citizen in 1981. Navratilova ended her professional tennis career in 1994.
