National Organization for Women (NOW), organization founded by Betty Friedan (author of The Feminine Mystique, 1963) in 1966 to promote full equality between men and women in all walks of life. With some 150,000 members, NOW has focused its efforts since 1978 on passage of the Equal Rights Amendment to end sexual discrimination in employment and on the abortion issue in support of the “Pro-Choice” advocates favoring abortion.
