National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. government agency set up in 1970 to coordinate scientific research into atmosphere and oceans, focusing on pollution, resources, and weather control. The NOAA now includes the Coast and Geodetic Survey (founded in 1807) and the Weather Bureau (founded in 1870).
