Saint Athanasius



Athanasius, Saint (c.297–373), early Christian theologian and Greek Father of the Church. Athanasius was elected archbishop of Alexandria in 328. He was banished to Trèves (Trier) in 335 by the emperor Constantine for his refusal to compromise with Arianism, but was restored by Constantius in 338. His writings include On the Incarnation, Five Books Against Arius, and Life of St. Anthony.
