Assiniboine



Assiniboine, Sioux tribe of the North American plains who left the Yanktonai Sioux to spread out from Canada across the northwestern United States. A nomadic people who lived primarily by hunting, they were greatly weakened by the extinction of the buffalo as a result of European settlements, and were placed on reservations in 1884.
