Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday, 40th weekday before Easter Sunday and the first day of the Christian fast of Lent. The name derives from the early practice of sprinkling penitents with ashes. Today the ash of burnt palms is used to mark the sign of the cross on the foreheads of believers.
