John Ashbery



Ashbery, John (1927–), U.S. poet of unconventional style, whose poems are experimental, fragmentary, and dreamlike. Associated with the poets of the “New York School,” Ashbery is also an art critic. His Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1975. Other works include Some Trees (1956), The Tennis Court Oath (1962), and A Wave (1984).
