Artificial sweetener



Artificial sweetener, synthetic substance, usually saccharin, aspartame, or acesulfame-K, used in place of sucrose (table sugar) to sweeten food and beverages. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates the use of artificial sweeteners and has banned some of them as possible cancer risks.
