Charles d' Artagnan



Artagnan, Charles d' (1620–73), French soldier whose name was immortalized by the swashbuckling character d'Artagnan in Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers. The real d'Artagnan served bravely in the armies of Louis XIII and Louis XIV and rose to the rank of brigadier general before his death at the siege of Maastricht.
