Henry “Hap” Harley Arnold



Arnold, Henry “Hap” Harley (1886– 1950), pioneer aviator and U.S. Air Force general who helped build U.S. air power and develop the Air Force as a unified separate service. Arnold held several early flying records, became chief of the U.S. Army Air Corps (1938), headed the Army Air Forces in World War II, and was made general of the Army (1944), a title later changed to general of the Air Force.
