Armstrong, Anne Legendre (1927-), U.S. political figure. Appointed by President Richard M. Nixon in 1972, Armstrong was the first woman to hold the Cabinet-level position of counselor to the president, serving under Presidents Nixon and Gerald R. Ford. She was also the first woman to serve as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain, appointed by Ford in 1976 and 1977.
