Armory Show

Armory Show, officially the International Exhibition of Modern Art, the first show of its kind in the United States, held at the 69th Regiment Armory, New York City, Feb.-Mar. 1913. Comprising over 1,300 works, it included a large section of paintings by contemporary Americans and works by modern European artists, including Constantin Brancusi, Georges Braque, Paul Cézanne, Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso. The avant-garde paintings caused much controversy but also the acceptance of modern art in the United States.
