Aragón

Aragón, historic region of northeastern Spain, stretching from the central Pyrenees to south of the Ebro River. The medieval kingdom of Aragón comprised what are now the provinces of Huesca, Teruel, and Saragossa, although the influence of the kings of Aragón was more extensive. King Ferdinand II of Aragón's marriage to Isabella of Castile (1479) laid the foundations of a unified Spain. Aragón's sovereignty was ended 1707–9 by Philip V during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–14).
