Appian Way



Appian Way, oldest Roman road, constructed by the censor Appius Claudius Caecus in 312 B.C. At first stretching from Rome to Capua (about 130 mi/209 km), by the mid-third century B.C. the road had been extended to the site of present-day Brindisi, making it the main artery to southern Italy.
