Aphrodite

Aphrodite, in Greek mythology, goddess of love, fertility, and beauty. The daughter of Zeus and Dione in some versions, in others she is described as having risen from the sea. Her intensely sensual beauty aroused jealousy among other goddesses, particularly after the Trojan Paris chose her as the most beautiful over Hera and Athena. Wife of the crippled smith Hephaestus, she took both divine and mortal lovers, giving birth to Aeneas and Eros. The Greeks honored her with many major shrines. The Romans called her Venus.
