Anti-Federalists
Anti-Federalists, opponents of the ratification of the Federal Constitution of 1787. The Anti-Federalists argued that centralized power would become despotic. After Washington's inauguration, the Anti-Federalist group helped to form the Democratic-Republican Party under Jefferson.
