Antidote

Antidote, remedy that neutralizes a poison or counteracts its effects. A chemical antidote unites with a poison to produce a harmless chemical, a mechanical antidote prevents the absorption of a poison, and a physiologic antidote produces effects contrary to those of the given poison. Most antidotes are effective against only one kind of poison, although specific antidotes are available in less than 2% of poisonings.
