Anguilla



Anguilla (pop. 9,000), island in the West Indies, 35 sq mi (90 sq km), lying 150 mi (240 km) east of Puerto Rico. Local industries include boat building, fishing, and salt. Discovered by Columbus, it became a British colony in 1650. Anguilla was part of the West Indian Associated States of St. Kitts, Nevis, and Anguilla, but it seceded in 1967 and is again under British rule.
