Sir Edmund Andros



Andros, Sir Edmund (1637–1714), British governor of New York (1674–81) and the Dominion of New England (1686–89). His attempt to curb the colonists' rights caused a rebellion. Imprisoned and sent to England for trial, he was acquitted and became governor of Virginia (1692–97).
