sea mythology

Andromeda, in Greek mythology, daughter of Cassiopeia and Cepheus, king of Ethiopia. Her mother boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids (sea nymphs). Out of revenge for this insult, Poseidon inundated the land and sent a sea monster to ravage the shore. Andromeda was rescued by Perseus, whom she then married.
