John Bayard Anderson



Anderson, John Bayard (1922–), U.S. politician. He represented an Illinois district in the House of Representatives 1961–81, serving as chairman of the House Republican Conference 1969–79. Always a fiscal conservative, he gradually became a liberal on social and defense issues. After losing a bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 1980, he ran for president as an independent and polled about 7% of the popular vote.
