Airmail



Airmail, the transporting of mail by aircraft. A revolutionary 20th-century postal development, airmail is used for almost all first-class mail traveling more than 200 mi (320 km). The first official U.S. airmail delivery was in 1911, from Garden City to Mineola, N.Y.; regular airmail service began in 1918.
