Ainu

Ainu, Japanese aborigines, possibly of Caucasoid descent, distinguished by stockiness, pale skin, and profuse body hair. Most Ainu live on Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan's major islands. Ainu speech, little used today, bears no relation to any other language. The Ainu are few in number, many having been assimilated into Japanese society.
