Advent



Advent (from Latin adventus, “arrival”), first season of the Christian church year. It begins on the Sun. nearest Nov. 30 (St. Andrew's Day) and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent has been observed since the 6th century as a period of meditative preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth and second coming.
