Jane Addams



Addams, Jane (1860–1935), U.S. social reformer. With Ellen Gates Starr she founded Chicago's Hull House (1889) to provide social and cultural activities for the neighborhood poor. An ardent pacifist, she served as president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom from 1915 to 1929 and was cowinner of the 1931 Nobel Peace Prize.
