Charles Francis Adams



Adams, Charles Francis (1807–86), U.S. diplomat and son of President John Quincy Adams. As minister to Great Britain (1861–68), he helped to keep Britain neutral during the Civil War. In 1871–72 he represented the United States in the Alabama Claims settlement.
