Absentee voting

Absentee voting, allowing a registered voter to cast a ballot in an election when unable to appear at a polling place. The voter sends a paper ballot to the election official before voting day. All states make provisions for absentee voting, but their laws differ on the elections in which absentee ballots are permitted and the acceptable reasons for absence.
