Cleveland Abbe



Abbe, Cleveland (1838–1916), U.S. meteorologist who inaugurated a system of scientific weather forecasting in the United States. After studying at the Pulkova Observatory in Russia, he became head of the Cincinnati Observatory and in 1869 began publishing official forecasts based largely on analyses of telegraphic reports on approaching storms.
